Now the New York Times is reporting that the secret program Vice President Cheney instructed the CIA not to disclose to Congress was “plans to dispatch small teams overseas to kill senior Qaeda terrorists.” But the program could never get off the ground, beset by “myriad logistical, legal and diplomatic obstacles.”

The Bush Administration engaged in so many appallingly inappropriate actions following the tragedy of 9/11, ranging from unprecedented curbs on personal liberty, to the patently manufactured war in Iraq, to steamrolling Congressional authority. And yet, they could not muster the ability to pursue the one thing that makes perfect sense and was and is perfectly justified — to seek out and destroy the very individuals who launched such atrocities against us. Unbelievable. Just when I thought my opinion of the profoundly dismal Bush Administration couldn’t go any lower.
